The begining of a beautiful friendship

Hello, I’d like to introduce myself again since this time I’m going to write about a whole different subject, a subject very close to my heart, the creatures that make our life better: DOGS!

So, my name is Catalin…nickname is Terapie therefor the name of the site, 28 years of age from Romania, I am passionate about photography but most of all about my dog who became like a child to me, the center of my universe…unfortunately this is the second dog for me, the first one died after a car hit him…bad memories…

Why did I decide to write about dogs?Because I care about them first of all and I want all the dogs to be at least as good taken care as mine is, and because I am a very meticulous person when it comes to doing something I love, I informed myself even before getting the puppy, and I went thru a lot of sites, forums and Wikipedia articles and a lot of Dog Whisperer (first 2 seasons mostly, then it got all crappy) then there’s the experience part, having to deal with 2 puppies in such a short period of time gets the best of you, specially a breed like the french bulldog (quite sensitive).

So from here on I shall write as often as possible about dogs, about how to feed them, how to take care of them, how to train them(in a general note…with some detailed info if asked for), about dog behavior and whatever else comes to mind…from time to time I might slip a personal story…so I hope you will enjoy this blog and find it helpful!

Going all the way

The next logical step of course was going SLR…D-SLR to be exact, the maximum level of customizability, now i control almost everything, I got a Nikon D40 – entry level D-SLR – the basic kit of body + 18-55mm lens, eBay is the bomb…I was amazed by the colours and the sharpness of the pictures but a bit disappointed about the size of the photos,being a 6MP camera, after using the 9MP fujifilm and having the bad habit of zooming in a lot on the PC screen, you can notice some pixelation.

Started taking pics all over and I was in love with the 18mm focal length, the wide angle is an amazing perspective, I shall do my best to get a ultra-wide angle lens…for now I will have to settle with the 18-55 and the Sigma APO 70-300mm(eBay again).

Stepping into the light

So i was into the film photography world…i went to a digital crap camera, the next step was unexpected – although logical – to get a good camera, even though i didn`t want a camera a work colleague of mine was selling his after he got a D-SLR…i didn`t want it at first but i got a nice deal on it and said oh…why not.

I got the camera and started taking pictures almost everywhere i went, and i enjoyed it a lot (it is the best bridge camera of its time, even nowadays it beats the crap out of a lot of cameras out there), 9 megapixels, 10.7x zoom 28-300mm fujinon lens, quite a large sensor and kick ass functionality…BUT, all in all it remains a “compact” camera, being limited by its lens most of all.

As i kept reading about photography and seeing other people’s pictures…i started noticing the limits of the camera, some noise on some pictures and so on…that left me craving for more!

The next step

After some years of playing with the old school analogue film camera, my brother got digital camera…it was so different, so much easier to work… it was a Fujifilm MX-2700, the smallest 2.3 MP camera of its time (it`s as large as nowadays entry-level DSLR body or so), it has a smart -media card of 64mb in size and crappy features, but it worked like a charm back then.In time i started taking it almost everywhere with me, took some pictures with it…it was more like a toy then the much more serious old camera(which costed “alot” to use for me as a young, non-working boy), so I guess I didn`t take it that serious and lost my interest in photography…too bad it took so long for me to get back on the horse.

The beginning

It all started with my brother and my uncle back when I was like 6 or so…they both were taking pictures with some old film cameras and developed them in our second bathroom, I was fascinated about how a piece of plastic roll was being put in a cup and stirred together with a chemical solution after which they put it on a projector thingy and projected the image on a piece of paper which they put thru some trays of other chemical solution…and notice how image was starting to show up on the paper…it’s something that you cannot understand at that age, but keeps you wondering…

When I grew up a bit I got the camera from my uncle…it was a piece of jewelry compared to what others had…i know for sure it was a SMENA(sovietic camera),quite rudimentary…a fixed lens film camera, so i started to take pictures, my uncle taught me somewhat how it works…he said “when the light is strong you put this at this value,when it’s low at this value…you don’t need to touch this one.” I now know he was talking about aperture and shutter speed…I suppose the aperture was set at a fixed value and he told me not to touch it…and for low light set shutter speed to slow, for strong light to fast.Too bad he didn’t explain to me how, what and why, guess I would’ve been a lot wiser now…
